Well done to everyone for their hard work this half term. It's been fantastic!
In English this week, we wrote a recount of our trip to Chester Zoo. We started the week by looking back at the photos that we took there and putting them into chronological order. We then completed a "recount map" drawing pictures of the events. We spent the rest of the week writing our recount. Year 1 focused on use of capital letters and full stops and using the conjunction "and." Year 2 focused on use of commas in a list and conjunctions such as so, and, because and but.
After half term we will be exploring animal poetry.
Our phonics sounds this week were ar and ur. After half term we will be recapping on all of our sounds.
Year 2s spelling pattern this week was adding "s" and "es" to make a plural word. After half term we will be recapping on all of our spelling patterns.
This weeks tricky words for year 1 were is and his. After half term we will be recapping on all of our tricky words learnt so far.
This weeks tricky words for year 2 were wild and climb. After half term we will be recapping on all of our tricky words learnt so far.
In Maths, Year 1 have been finding one more and one less of different numbers between 0 and 20. We have used stem sentences to explain our thinking and completed missing number sequences. After half term, we will continue with this learning and begin to explore counting in tens.
In Year 2, we have been learning about finding the "difference." Our counting cubes were really useful when finding the difference and by the end of the week we were using subtraction calculations to represent difference and answering worded problems. After half term we will continue with this learning and then move onto our new unit "fluently adding and subtracting within 10."
In DT, we completed an evaluation of our Kente Cloths!
In Topic, we explored the country Kenya. we began by locating it on a map and talked about what it would be like if it is close to the equator. We looked at photos of the different physical features of Kenya for example the capital city Nairobi, Lake Nakuru, the Masaai Mara and Mount Kenya. We split into groups and created our own 3D maps of these different features.
This week in computing we had to fix algorithms designed for a beebot. For example, one algorithm was designed to instruct a beebot to travel around a book but we had to make changes for it to work successfully.
In Science, we explored the movement of different animals. We compared animals and how they move. A worm wriggles and squirms so that it can tunnel through the ground and eat the soil. A Leopard prowls and creep when it is hunting its pray and then sprints to catch it. We drew pictures of animals of our choice and thought of words to describe their movements.
Now it is time for a very well deserved half term break. Thank you for all of our support. Have a fantastic rest and I will see you in two weeks!
Miss Anderson :)
