It was the first full week back at school for some of us with the snow that we had last week!

In English we listened to the story "Katie in London" which is all about a little girl and her brother who take a trip to London to explore the landmarks. A lion from Trafalgar Square takes them on a journey all over the city! We decided that the introduction to the story was a little boring, so Year 1 thought of some different adjectives and wrote their own. Year 2 thought of their own expanded noun phrases for description. At the end of the week we wrote a description of what the children could see from the London Eye.

In Maths, we all started a new unit of work. Year 1 are focusing on numbers 0 - 5, exploring partitioning numbers in part whole models and bar models. We also looked at ordinal language to describe the position of objects.

In Year 2, we are exploring multiplication. We began by understanding what makes groups equal and unequal. Then we started to describe equal groups. We are going to begin to use repeated addition to describe groups.

In Science, we went on a materials hunt! Each table had a different material on it and we had to go round finding objects made of them. Some objects were made from more than one material! Year 2 took their learning further by discussing why an object had been made from a specific material e.g the table was made from wood because it is sturdy and can hold lots of weight.

In Topic, we began to identify the UK, London and our location on a map, using the vocabulary north, south, east and west. We looked at the river that runs through London.

In PSHE, we were looking at being able to work well in a pair to achieve a goal. The children were allowed to choose their own partner that they thought they would work well with. The challenge was to design a crown for a King or Queen. We had to listen to each others ideas and combine these to make it a collaborative task.

In RE our new big question is "Who is Jewish and how do they live?" We started by learning all about the Mezuzah and why it is hung on the doorway of a Jewish persons house. We decorated our own Mezuzahs and then discussed the importance of the words of the Shema inside.

Our focus in worship this term is resilience. We are working really hard in Red Squirrel class at using our resilience to overcome challenges!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone! x
