Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter break.

We have had a fantastic first week back in Red Squirrel class! We also got to welcome back Eryn, which was very exciting and we are really glad to have her back in our class.

A reminder that swimming will begin next Tuesday and run for 10 weeks.

Woodland school will be as normal on a Friday.

In English this weekend we read the story "The king of tiny things." We explored the past tense verbs in the story and Year 2 thought of appropriate adjectives to match. We then wrote a recount of the story using a range of descriptive vocabulary.

In Maths, Year 1 were introduced to the subtraction symbol. We compared this to addition and created our own number stories for addition and subtraction, focusing on the idea that when adding we are "putting something together" and when subtracting we are "pulling something apart."

Year 2 continued with their learning around division. This week we learnt the words dividend, divisor, and quotient to describe the numbers in a division calculation. We made links between multiplication and division.

In topic we were introduced to our new topic "Countryside to Coast." We talked about what we wanted to find out during this unit of work!

In RE, we started to explore our new big question "What is the good news that Christians say Jesus brings?" We read a story about Matthew the tax collector and talked about why Jesus chose him to be one of his 12 disciples.

In PSHE, we looked at a range of pictures of different families and talked about how all families look different. We made our own "happy home recipe" discussing what we need to make our homes a happy place to be!

Our phonics sounds this week were a-e and e-e split digraphs. Year 1s tricky words were where, there, here.

Year 2s spelling pattern was recapping on contracted words. Our tricky words were whole and who

We started our new DT unit looking at mechanisms. The children learnt all about levers and sliders and we created our own slider mechanism. They were fantastic!

Have a fantastic weekend! :)
