We have had another busy week in Red Squirrel class with lots of learning happening!

In English, we read a fantastic story called "Jack and the Flum Flum tree" which had lots of repetitive phrases in it. In the story, Granny had a big patchwork sack filled with objects that Jack and his friends used on their journey to the Isle of Blowyernose! We wrote lists and simple sentences to describe the items. Year 2 extended their sentences using expanded noun phrases and conjuctions. We are also practicing joining our writing!

In Maths, Year 1 have been playing games to explore more numbers between 1 and 10. We recognised that 0 has no value! When Miss Anderson asked us to collect 0 teddy bears, we realised we had been tricked! Year have been continuing their work on multiples of 10 and we have been beginning to look at the place value of two digit numbers using concrete objects to support us.

In RE, we wrote thank you messages to God to thank him for the world that he created.

In Science, we carried out an investigation to explore the five senses. We had to taste the crisps and decide what flavour they were. We smelt some interesting things while blindfolded and had to identify the smell. We had to look at a set of objects and then try to remember what there was. We had to walk around the school and listen out for all of the different sounds. We felt some items in a bag and had to guess what they were.

In Topic, we explored the different types of boats and learnt some new vocabulary. We had to sort the pictures of boats depending on their size, material, how they are powered and what they are used for.

PE has been very tiring! We have been learning all about health and fitness. We carried out some different activities that really raised our heart rate!

In Computing, we used "sketchpad" to have a go at improving our mouse skills. We had to drag an image around, resize it and duplicate it.

Our phonics sounds this week have been dge, ve and wh. We have been exploring these in our spelling sessions too! Year 2 have been looking at words with the "ck" sound. Our tricky words have been to, do and today. Year 2 - because, poor

We went to the woods on Friday and had a go at making our own "vehicles" using natural materials. It was lots of fun using our imagination and going on an adventure!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
