What a fantastic first week back in Red Squirrel class!

In English, we explored the poetry book "I love bugs" by Emma Dodd. We had to spot the rhyming and alliteration in the story and then created our own examples of alliteration to describe different bugs that we might find in our local area. At the end of the week, we created our own "I love bugs" poem and they were superb!

In Maths, Year 1 explored teens numbers further, partitioning them into tens and ones and putting them into a part whole model. We then talked about how we know whether teens numbers are odd or even, by using numbers 1 - 10 to help us. Year 2 started a new unit of work looking at fractions. We explored halves, quarters and thirds and discussed that fractions must be split into equal parts of the whole.

It was trinity journey day on Monday and we talked about the trinity meaning "three." To link with our topic countryside to coast, we created our own pictures of three rivers or three roads leading to the sea. They were amazing!

In Topic, we looked at human and physical features of the coast such as a bay, cove, harbour and pier. The children had to label a picture of these features and then drew their own pictures of a human or physical feature that they knew.

In RE, we began our new topic looking at places that are sacred to believers. We discussed the places that are special to us and why and then went back and drew a picture of these.

Next Monday is our class worship, so we have been busily planning for that. The theme is "respecting other cultures" so we each drew a flag of a different country and found out some information about their culture to share with the rest of the school!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone,

Miss Anderson :)
