‘Aim High’

W/B 17/11/25

Date: 19th Nov 2025 @ 8:11am

It's been a chilly one this week! We have worked our socks off as always and done some fantastic learning.

In English we wrote a description of the island in our story "Grandad's Island" for our writing journals. These are our special books that showcase some of the amazing writing that we have been doing.

Our spelling pattern this week has been adding the suffix "ed" to turn verbs into past tense e.g. sprint = sprinted.

Year 1 have been recapping on their phonics sounds from last week "ow, oi and ear."

In Maths, Year 2 started a new unit of work looking at addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers. We explored using our known facts to support us when adding or subtracting larger numbers e.g If I know 6 + 3 = 9 then I know 66 + 3 = 69.

Year 1 have been working on spotting patterns when counting to and from 100. We recapped on our knowledge of one more and one less than a tens number and what pattern we could spot.

In RE, we continued to focus on our big question "Why is Christmas so important to Christians?" We thought about the point of view of the Shepherds after the birth of the newborn king and we write some sentences about this, discussing how they might be feeling.

In Topic, we explored the work of the Wright brothers and how their inventions shaped the world of flying today!

In Science, we discussed the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. We suggested ways to keep healthy, such as a balanced diet, lots of sleep and exercise. We created our own posters about this.

In PE, we continued to work on our dribbling skills and played a game of end ball incorporating these newfound skills. We also continued with our gymnastics work, piecing our own sequence of balances together.

In PSHE, we created our own freeze frames depicting bullying. We have explored what bullying means and when a situation can be classed as bullying.

Next week is our "Time to shine" week where children will complete different reading, maths and spelling activities to show off their amazing knowledge. This will be mixed up with lots of art, child initiated learning and PE to ensure that the children are getting lots of breaks! There will be no spellings on the website next week due to this!
