‘Aim High’

W/B 2/2/26

Date: 4th Feb 2026 @ 3:02pm

Well it's been another busy week and we are even closer to half term! A reminder for all parents that project afternoon is next Monday 9th February at 2:30pm.

In English this week we used our topic books to find out information about Samuel Pepys. We thought of questions that we wanted to find out about him and used a question mark accurately. Then we wrote full, descriptive sentences. At the end of the week we imagined that we were Samuel Pepys and wrote a diary entry from the first night of the great fire of London.

In maths, Year 2 explored the 10x table, thinking about the patterns that we could spot. We solved some problems that involved using our 10x table knowledge. In Year 1, we continued to explore shapes, recognising 2D shapes on the faces of 3D shapes. Our learning has been very practical this week, which we have really enjoyed!

In Art, we began our new unit of work. We started by exploring images of Tudor houses and then sketched our own. Mrs Ralphs and I could not believe the amazing standard of work across the class!!! Mr Watts has popped a post on social media that shows just how engaged the children were during this lesson. You could have heard a pin drop in the classroom, it was that quiet because of the incredible concentration.

In Science, we carried out an investigation to see which material would be the best for keeping an ice lolly cold for the longest amount of time. We began by setting up our investigation, talking about how we would make it fair. We picked bubblewrap, foil, a tea towel and a sandwich bag. Our results showed ghat bubblewrap was the best material and foil was the worst! We decided that this is because metal heats up quickly as it is a conductor.

In Topic, we explored the spread of the great fire of London. We drew a map to show the spread, using a key and different colours to represent this.

It was "National Storytelling Week" this week and we participated in a workshop. It was all about music being a powerful tool for story writing. We listened to an author reading her own story, where she incorporated music into it. We used our mouths and bodies to make noises to match emotions!

In PSHE, we completed our unit looking at "Dreams and Goals" thinking about how successful we were at working with someone else to complete a goal. The children had some great ideas on what makes a successful partnership.

In RE, we found out all about the festival of light for Jewish people called "Chanukah." We listened to the story of Chanukah and discussed the miracle of the small jar of oil keeping the candles burning for 8 whole days! We drew some pictures to represent Chanukah and wrote some information about it.

Have a fabulous weekend everybody!

Miss Anderson :)
