It has been another exciting week in Red Squirrel class!
In English, we continued looking at the story "Jack and the Flum Flum tree" and explored the different adjectives and verbs from the story. We wrote our own sentences including these. Year 2 took this further by creating expanded noun phrases to describe parts of the story. We have been working on letter formation daily in our handwriting sessions and Year 2 are beginning to join letters. We have been looking at joins that begin at the bottom of a letter.
In Phonics, our sounds of the week were cks, tch and nk.
Year 2 explored the soft "c" before e, y and i.
In Maths, Year 2 have been looking at the place value of 2-digit numbers and representing different numbers on a hundred square. We began to explore 2-digit numbers on a numberline, looking at what kind of numbers are the midway point between two multiples of 10. Year 1 have been using the vocabulary "more" and "less" to describe an amount. We have been using tens frames to identify what 5 needs to make other numbers such as 6, 7, 8 and 9.
In RE, we planned our class worship for next week, with the theme being "thanks." We talked about Harvest and what we are thankful for. We wrote thank you notes to God and painted different fruits and vegetables. We can't wait to share this with the rest of the school next week.
In Science, we continued to explore the five senses and used them to think about what we could see, smell, touch, hear and taste in the classroom. We then started to look at how animals use their senses in order to survive.
In Topic, we created our very own canal!! We used different materials to make our own and explored the history of canals, particularly those close to us such as Llangollen. We enjoyed looking at the pictures of old canal boats towed by horses. It must have been a tough job!
In Art, we used "frottage" techniques (French for rubbings) to explore the textures in our local environment. We are going to use these when we come to create our own collage! We really enjoyed this and it was fun to see how many different textures we could spot.
We used sketchpad again in Computing to explore ways to make repeated patterns similar to a chosen artist. We love using sketchpad!
Have a lovely weekend everybody,
Miss Anderson :)
