We are another week down and this half term seems to be flying by!

In English this week, we wrote  our own version of the story "Katie in London," imagining what London landmarks we would visit with the lion. Year 1 continued to focus on using different verbs and adjectives for description. Year 2 used a range of adverbs and expanded noun phrases for detail.

Our phonics focus this week was alternative graphemes for oi.

In maths, Year 1 started a new unit looking at shape. We explored rotating different shapes and used the shape tiles to make repeated patterns. We also made tangram images which was lots of fun!

Year 2 continued their work on multiplication. We focused this week on the two times table and spotted different patterns. We solved problems involving facts in the two times table.

In topic, we found out all about how the great fire of London started. We learnt that it began in Thomas Farriner's bakery on Pudding Lane. The reason that the fire spread so quickly was because it had been such a dry summer and there was a strong wind that night. The tudor houses were made of wood, which we know burns quickly! We drew a picture of the bakery and labelled it to show how the fire started. Year 2 took their learning further by writing some information about this.

In science, we have been learning all about materials and their uses. This week, we split into groups and designed an outfit for a specific purpose. We had an outfit for a firefighter, a skier, and a sunny day at the beach. We had to think about the specific fabrics that would be suitable for each outfit and why.

In computing, we have been designing our own rockets using the app "sketchpad." This week, we had to put the instructions for making a rocket in chronological order. This will help us next week when we create our own rockets to launch!

In PSHE, we showed how fantastic we are at working together. We created our own "dream garden." A place that would be lovely to spend time in!

In RE, we continued to look at our big question "Who is Jewish and how do they live?" We listened to the story of David and Goliath and talked about the important parts from this and what Jewish people might take from it.

In DT, we made our bread rolls! We followed our design and got to add different things to our dough. Some of us went for a savoury roll and some went fo a sweet roll! They were very tasty!

This week, it was our class worship and the theme was "trying something new." We talked about some of the new things that we have been trying in Red Squirrel class and shared this with the rest of the school!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone! :)
