‘Aim High’

W/B 2/6/25

Date: 5th Jun 2025 @ 1:45pm

We have had a great start back to school this week after a well deserved break!

This week in phonics we have been recapping on our split digraphs and revising over all of our sounds in preparation for phonics screening next week. Year 2 have been focusing on applying the rule when a word ends in a "y" and we add a suffix so it changes to "i".

In Maths, Year 1 have been introduced to coins and we made our own shop in the classroom, paying for items with the correct amount of pennies. Year 2 have continued their work looking at fractions. We have worked practically and with shapes to explore different fractions.

In English, we began to look at the picture book "Bee and Me." We focused on the first few pages and thought of different verbs to describe what was happening. Year 2 extended this by considering adverbs to describe the verbs. We took this further by writing a retell of the beginning of the story.

In Topic, we went outside to spot areas in our school grounds that we might find pollinators. We created our own aerial map to show where pollinators could be spotted.

In Science, we also went outside to observe the deciduous and evergreen trees around us. We took some leaves and created our own leaf rubbings!

In RE, we began our new unit of work looking at how we should care for others. We started by talking about how God believes that we are all special and unique and we celebrated this by describing what makes us unique.

In PSHE, we started our new topic "Changing Me". We looked at the life cycles of different animals and plants and also talked about what we can't change or stop. For example we can't stop ourselves from growing!

Phonics screening begins next week. If parents have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Have a great weekend,

Miss Anderson x
