Another busy week has flown by in Red Squirrel class and we are certainly ready for the bank holiday weekend!

In English we listened to the fantastic story "Superworm" by Julia Donaldson. We began the week writing expanded noun phrases to describe Superworm and then turned this into a character description. We had some superb ideas!

Our phonics focus this week was the split digraph i-e sound, as well as other alternative graphemes for igh. Our tricky words were are were, clothes people busy.

In maths, both Year 1 and 2 have come to the end of their unit of work. Year 1 have been exploring addition anf subtraction and getting used to the symbols. Next week, we will begin to explore addition and subtraction to 10. Year 2 completed their work on shape, describing different polygons. Next week, they will begin to explore strategies for addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers.

We enjoyed a special cricket session from Acton Reynald this week! It was lovely learning lots of new techniques and hopefully there are some children who would like to participate in their evening sessions!

In RE, we continued to look at the story of ,Matthew the tax collector, but began to discuss the word "forgiveness." We talked about the importance in forgiving others and where it talks about this in the bible.

In Science, we discussed what animals and plants need in order to survive. We drew our pets, or an animal that can live in a home and discussed what it gets in order to keep it alive. We then drew a plant growing in our garden or local area and described the same.

In Topic, we looked at an aerial image of our school and its surrounding grounds. We discussed the features of a village, thinking specifically about Clive. Then, we each got a blank square and a piece of the aerial image to draw. Once we were finished we pieced it all together to create a shared class collage!

In PSHE, we discussed what happens when there's conflict in a friendship group and shared ways that we can resolve this.

Have a fantastic bank holiday weekend everyone! :)
