It was so lovely to welcome everyone back after a well deserved break over Easter. I hope that you all had a fantastic two weeks.
We have entered our final term and been introduced to our new topic "bees." We began the week by discussing what we would like to find out during this topic and enjoying our new topic books from the library.
We focused on the traditional tale "Jack and the beantstalk" and wrote a character description of the giant. We used words like digusting, revolting, evil and beastly!
This week in phonics we have been looking at the alternative graphemes for "oo" and "yoo." We found lots!
We have started new units in maths. Year 2 are now looking at addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers. We are learning the method where we add the tens, add the ones and then combine them to get our final answer.
Year 1 have been looking at teens numbers. We now know that every teens number has 1 lot of ten! We recognised that teens numbers are made up of one lot of 10 and ones.
Our new topic in science is plants. We completed our pre assessment to show off all of the fabulous things that we already know about plants. We took a trip down to our school garden and discuss where we are going to plant our seeds.
In Art, we did some observational drawings of flowers that we collected from our local area. We used sketching pencils and thought about our pencil control.
Our tadpoles are back in school after two weeks at Miss Andersons's house! They are getting bigger and will soon sprout their legs to become froglets! We also have our caterpillars arriving soon so it's getting very exciting in Red Squirrel class.
Our new topic in RE is "What does it mean to belong to a faith community?" We started by discussing where we belong. We belong to a family, a friendship group, a school, different clubs.
The weather is getting warmer! Thank you to those that have sent their children in with a hat and suncream. We are encouraging the children to drink water regularly throughout the day too.
Have a lovely weekend.
