Hello! I hope that everyone had a really restful half term break. The children have come back full of lovely stories!

In English this week we were introduced to the story "Grandad's Island." We had to predict what might happen in the story using clues from the front cover and title. We used descriptive vocabulary to describe Syd's journey to Grandad's house and then predicted what might be behind the attic door!

This week we have been recapping on the phonics sounds from last half term, as well as the spelling patterns taught. We have looked back at our tricky words too!

In Maths, Year 1 have been counting in tens and recognising the patterns in our tens numbers. We have played games involving tens numbers and spotted them on a hundred square. Year 2 have been using subtraction to find the difference between numbers.

In Science, we explored the changes that occur as we move from the summer into autumn. We talked about having less daylight hours and what happens to the animals.

In PE we have started looking at ball skills and gymnastics. We are building up to playing a game of handball!

In RE we began to look at our new big question which is "Why does Christmas matter to Christians?" We started this unit of work by exploring different paintings and drawings of Jesus through history. We thought of different adjectives to describe these images.

In Topic, we continued to explore the sinking of the Titanic and the sequence of events that led to this disaster.

Our new topic in PSHE is "celebrating difference" and we started off talking about stereotyping.

In Computing, we completed another online safety session, listening to a story and giving advice on how to stay safe when using the internet.

Our Woodland school session this week was fabulous! We went on a nature walk, spotting all of the different fungi on the way, as well as identifying different trees.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
