It may have only been 4 days, but it has still been another busy week!
It was fantastic celebrating VE Day on Thursday as a school. What a lovely day remembering all those who fought for our country and our freedom. We made our own poppies out of clay and they were super!
In Phonics this week we have been focusing on the alternative graphemes for oi and ow. We explored different words with these sounds and segmented them to spell them independently.
In English, we wrote a recount of the story "Jack and the Beanstalk." We began the week by creating our own story map to remember the important parts of the story. Then we used a range of conjunctions and adjectives to write our recount. They were fantastic!
In Maths, Year 2 completed their work looking at addition of 2-digit numbers by crossing the tens boundary. We then moved onto subtraction. We have began our subtraction work by recapping on subtracting multiples of 10 from a 2-digit number.
Year 1 have continued to explore how teens numbers are made. We looked at the teens numbers that are odd and even and began to double and halve larger numbers!
In Topic, we identified the different parts of a bee and explored what each parts job is! We began to make our own bees using egg boxes.
In Art, we compared the paintings "Red Canna" by Georgia O'Keefe and "Flower Garden" by Gustav Klimt. We started to use paints and viewfinders to zoom in on a part of a flower picture and blend colours together to recreate the "Red Canna."
In PSHE, we talked about secrets. We discussed exciting secrets, like a suprrise present or party. We also discussed worry secrets and what we could do if we have a secret that is a worry.
There is now a new letter on our class page all about this terms project afternoon. The children have loved it so much, that we have decided to do it again this term!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Anderson
