Although it was a 4 day week this week, we were still able to get a lot of learning done!
In English this week we took inspiration from the story "superworm" and created our own superhero creepy crawly! We then wrote our own fact file about them using expanded noun phrases and other exciting vocabulary!
Our phonics focus this week has been recapping on the split digraphs that we have learnt so far.
Our spelling focus has been using possessive apostrophes for singular nouns.
In Maths, Year 2 have been learning new methods for addition of 2-digit numbers. We began by using the dienes to combine tens and ones and then moved onto solving calculations in our books. Year 1 have started a new unit looking at addition and subraction. We have been finding pairs of numbers that make 10.
In Science, we went on a microhabitat hunt in our local area! We started by discussing the different microhabitats that we might find around us and put these into a tally chart. We then went outside and explored, counting the microhabitats that we could see and adding this information to our chart.
In Topic, we talked about what an "aerial photo" is. We explored a range of aerial photos of villages, towns and cities and even looked at one that was taken of our school a few years back. We used this image and labelled it to describe what we could see.
In PSHE, we talked about good secrets and worry secrets. We know that sometimes it is ok to keep a "good" secret, but sometimes if it is a "worry" secret, it is very important to share this with a trusted adult.
In computing, we have started to explore our new laptops. We used a word document to type our own story, getting used to the keys on the keyboard!
Well done for all of your hard work this week Red Squirrels!
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
