It has been another wonderful week in Red Squirrel class and busy as always!

In English this week, we recapped on the story "Arlo the lion who couldn't sleep" by Catherine Raymer. In Year 1, we worked together to think of our own African animal character who couldn't sleep and thought of some reasons why. We then wrote our own story using these ideas focusing on capital letters and full stops. We are trying really hard to apply our phonics knowledge when writing unfamiliar words. Year 2 independently chose their own animal and changed the problem in the story. They used conjunctions to join ideas and used different punctuation in their writing such as a comma and an exclamation mark.

Next week we are going to write a recount of our trip to Chester Zoo!

Our phonics sounds this week were oa and oo. Next week they are ar and ur.

Year 2s spelling pattern this week was the silent "w" before an "r."  Next week we will be looking at the adding "s" and "es" to make a plural word.

This weeks tricky words for year 1 were were and was. Next weeks tricky words are is and his.

This weeks tricky words for year 2 were child and children. Next weeks tricky words are wild and climb.

In Maths, Year 1 have began recording their understanding in maths books. We have completed missing number sequences and used the language more, less and equal to compare numbers. Next week we will be looking at finding one more or one less of larger teens numbers.

In Year 2, we have been talking about the most efficient way to add three addends. We explored this through part whole models and bar models. At the end of the week, we used our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to make 10 first and then see what was left.

Next week, we will begin to look at subtraction of addends and bridging 10.

In RE, our big question is "What do Christians believe God is like?" We have learnt what a parable is and this week we completed an end of unit assessment where we used the vocabulary that we have learnt accurately to complete some sentences.

In DT, we have continued to work on our Kente cloths and added some extra detail. Next week we will finish and complete an evaluation of our work.

In Topic, we visited Chester Zoo to really bring our learning to life and it was amazing!! On Wednesday, we looked at photos of safaris in South Africa and the different animals that we might see. We talked abuot what we might pack in our suitcases if we went on safari. We drew pictures of the items that we would take and labelled them.

This week in computing we created our very own maze using lego, building blocks and paper and pens to guide our beebot around. It was quite tricky and we had to keep adapting our maze in order for the algorithm to work but it was lots of fun!

Have a fantastic weekend everybody!
