We have had another exciting week in Red Squirrel class and this half term seems to be flying by!
In our English this week, we listened to the story "Leaf Man." It describes the journey of a leaf man, who turns into many different creatures as the wind blows him around. We saw a leaf turtle, fish, turkey, cow and many more! We went outside and created our own leaf creatures, which we then wrote instructions for. Year 1 focused on simple sentences, using capital letters and full stops accurately. Year 2 included time conjunctions and adverbs.
In Maths, Year 1 have continued their work counting forwards and backwards to and from 0 - 20. We found it tricky writing our teens numbers, so we had a good practice of these, looking at sequences with missing numbers. Year 2 began to look at adding 3 addends efficiently. We talked about looking for two numbers that could be added first, without needing to count. We then explored two addends that total 10 and how adding these together first would make the calculation easier to solve.
In RE, we finished our unit looking at the big question "Who do Christians think created the world?" The children ordered the creation story, drawing some beautiful pictures, to show their understanding of this unit of work.
In Science, we looked at life cycles of animals and humans. First, we had to match up some cards to show the animal and their offspring. Then, we looked at the life cycle of a variety of animals and discussed what happens. We grow and evolve. Year 1 played a life cycles game, trying to complete the life cycles on the cards. Year 2 had a go at choosing their own animal and drawing its life cycle. We then used the topic books to research about a chosen animal and its life cycle.
In Topic, we learned all about bonfire night. We sequenced the events of the gunpowder plot and talked about how we celebrate bonfire night now, all these years later!
In Art, we began creating our own collages of vehicles. We used a range of magazines, newspapers and sugar paper to create our collage. We are going to make a display of this fantastic work!
In PE, we have continued to focus on health and fitness, working on our balance and movement. This week, we looked at the difference between a leap, hop and jump, talking about the different landings. We incorporated these into some different games.
In Computing, we continued to use sketchpad to create a final piece of work; a self portrait! We used mirrors to show our reflection and then had a go at using the different tools that we have been learning about during this unit of work.
Have a fantastic weekend everybody!
Miss Anderson :)
