We have had another busy week in Red Squirrel class!
This week, we started looking at our new spelling patterns: sh, th, ng and dge, ge. Our common exception words were the, a and door, floor.
In English, we read the story Stanley's Stick and talked about the different ways that he uses his stick. We wrote a recount of the story in simple sentences, remembering our capital letters and full stops. Year 2 used time conjunctions such as first, next, then and finally.
In Maths, Year 2 have been continuing their work exploring multples of 10. We have begun to look at adjacent multiples to help us add and subtract 10 to and from these numbers. Year 1 have been counting to songs and actions this week. We sang "10 green bottles" and used our whiteboards to draw the amount in the song.
In RE, we continued to discuss the creation story. We talked about all of the wonderful things that God created. Our task was to draw pictures of the different thinks that God created during the 7 days.
In Topic, we learnt all about bicycles through the ages. We couldn't believe how heavy the first bikes were and that they had no pedals!! It was fun looking at the different pictures of bikes and how they have developed. We decided that a penny farthing would be tricky to ride because the seat is so high up!
In Science, we discussed all of the different body parts that we know. We started by playing a game of heads, shoulders, knees and toes but changed the body parts which made the song trickier to remember. We drew around some of our bodies and then had a go at labelling the different body parts, remembering that some can't be seen because they're hidden inside of us.
In PSHE, we explored the different rewards and consequences that we get for positive and negative behaviour.
In Art, we began to use magazines to create a collage of a face. We talked about the words sbstract and realistic.
In PE, we played some games in order to build up an awareness of our space and the surroundings when moving about.
Our first computing session always begins by exploring ways to keep safe online. We listened to a story and had to give advice for how to stay safe when playing online.
All children have been sent home with a questionnaire about bikes. It would be great if you could complete these and return them by next Friday if possible. The questionnaire could be completed by yourselves or grandparents! Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Anderson
