We have made it to the end of a very busy half term! It has been jam packed full of so much fantastic learning. A huge well done to all of Red Squirrel class for their hard work!
Our phonics this week has been focused around alernative graphemes for "oo." We looked at "ew" and "ue." Our tricky words were once and ask.
Year 2s spelling pattern was adding the suffix "ed" to words already ending in e such as love and live. Our tricky words were grass, class, and pass.
In English this week we have been writing poems all about the great fire of London. Year 1 wrote an acrostic poem using some fabulous adjectives. Year 2 wrote a descriptive poem that included some similes, expanded noun phrases and alliteration! We really enjoyed reading these aloud to a friend at the end of the week.
In Maths, Year 1 reached the end of their unit exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We are now beginning our work on the composition of numbers 6 - 10. Year 2 explored the 5x table this week. We spotted some interesting patterns and solved some problems involving multiples of 5.
In RE, we completed an assessment to show off all of the marvellous things that we have learnt about Judaism. We used key vocabulary such as Shabbat, Mezzuzah, Shema, Torah.
In Topic, we found out more about Samuel Pepys and his special diary. We know that he used a secret code when writing parts of his diary and so we had a go at writing a special message using this code! It was lots of fun.
On Monday, we invited parents in to look at our projects. WOW! They were phenomenal, and as always, we really enjoyed hearing the children talk about them with such enthusiasm. Thank you to all of you for your support with this!
In Art, we explored using clay, creating different patterns and textures with a range of objects such as buttons and forks! We are building up to creating our own model of a Tudor house.
In Computing, we had a go at catapulting our rockets that we designed and made in groups. It was lots of fun!
Have a fantastic half term everyone and a truly well deserved rest! See you all in a week.
Miss Anderson :)
