Another busy week in Red Squirrel class!
In English, we wrote a recount of our trip to Ancient High House. This went into our special writing journals!
In Maths, Year 2 looked at how doubling is the same as multiplying by 2. We doubled some 2-digit numbers and multiplied different numbers by 2.
Year 1 partitioned numbers 6 - 10 in a systematic way. We talked about what systematic means and spotted patterns when partitioning e.g. 10 is made of 9 and 1, 8 and 2, 7 and 3 etc.
In Topic, we learnt all about the great fire of Wem and made comparisons to the great fire of London. We located Wem on a map and also found an account of the night of the fire written by a Reverend.
In Science we carried out an investigation to find the most flexible materials. We tested a range of objects by bending, squashing, twisting and stretching them. The most flexible/malleable object was the elastic band!
In PE, we continued to develop our bowling, batting and fielding skills by playing a game of kwik cricket. We are really enjoying this!!
In PSHE, we discussed how to keep our bodies safe when out and about. We looked at a picture of Jigsaw Jo riding on his bike and spotted the different hazards such as crossing a busy road, walking close to the train tracks, walking by a large body of water etc. We talked about what we would do to make sure that we kept ourselves safe at all times.
In RE, we recapped on the Easter story and discussed which events were happy and which events were sad. We came up with different words for happy and sad and drew pictures of the different events.
In Computing, we identified the different parts of a computer and drew some of these in groups.
Our phonics sounds this week were alternative graphemes for "er" and "or." We explored the different sounds for these and spotted them in a range of words.
Our spelling pattern this week was "o" spelt as "a" after w and qu. Year 2 have become experts at spelling words with this particular spelling pattern in.
Our tricky words of the week were: pull full and improve sure sugar
Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
