‘Aim High’

Week beginning 1st June

Date: 23rd May 2026 @ 10:33am

Morning everyone.

We start our first day back on 1st June with our Trinity Journey Day. Each term, the whole school takes an aspect of our church school and studies it in more depth over a morning or afternoon. For our Trinity Journey Day this year, everyone is focusing on the importance of the number three in the Trinity. In Dormouse class, we are looking at representations of three and completing a decorated Celtic Knot.

Our book for the first week of term is Lost in the Toy Museum. We will be making our own museum using the toys that the children might like to bring from home. If anyone has any shoe boxes that they don't want, we would be grateful to have them as we are going to use these in our toy museum. Please bring in on the first day back.

Nursery have been making such progress in their phonics. We are moving on to blending our phonemes (letter sounds) together to make new words. We will also briefly look at the actual letters that represent these phonemes. In Reception, we are focusing on fluency in reading. How do we become fluent readers? We have already learned about being a phonics detective to help recognise phonemes within words and now we are going to use this skill to sound out and blend in our heads. We will then be thinking about those words that we don't need to keep sounding out such as and.

In maths, Nursery are focusing on the measurement of weight. We will be introducing our balances and comparing the weights of objects. Reception are beginning their work to use rekenreks. These are similar to an old abacus and help children to see representations of amounts to ten and twenty.

Later in the week, for our computing, we will be learning once again about internet safety.

Our garden continues to grow rapidly and is ever in need of water. If you are passing and have a moment to give the plants a drink, there is water in the tank and a watering can by the side.

In the meantime, have a lovely half term break and we look forward to seeing you after the holidays.
