‘Aim High’

Week ending 5th September

Date: 7th Sep 2025 @ 3:41pm

Hello everyone

Firstly, thank you so much for your support during your child's first week. Everyone has settled so well and Mrs Kenning and I have been so pleased with how the week has gone. Everyone is certainly very tired but I hope that all children have enjoyed the week.

This week, we began our topic of Journeys by looking at our own homes and thinking about what surrounds our houses. We talked about different rooms within the house and what we use each room for.

Nursery began their new phonics work with the nursery rhyme Baa Baa Black Sheep. Next week we will explore Hey Diddle Diddle. We will also be exploring rhyming words.

Reception began their phonics work by exploring At the farm. This will be there first book that they bring home on Monday. They will have the book for the week and then if I can ask that you return it on Monday 15th September ready for our next book. We orally composed new sentences about the pictures and tried to extend our sentences using new words. We will have a phonics workshop for parents this half term with more information about ways that you can support your child at home. Reception also worked on our first set of sounds

s a t p and began to blend these sounds together to make new words - sat, tap pat.

This morning, we watched Alphablocks as another way to embed these sounds.

Alphablocks - Series 2: 1. Taps - BBC iPlayer

In maths Nursery have been continuing their work on Baa Baa Black Sheep by looking at groups of sheep and recognising 1 and 2. Next week, we are learning about positional language in Hey Diddle Diddle.

Reception have been grouping amounts up to 3 and finding sets of objects within a larger amount. I have attached one of the pictures that we looked at today, when we were spotting groups of three. I have challenged them to find groups of three peas on their plates! Next week, we are developing counting skills, making sure that we only count objects in a group once and that we say numbers in the right order.

Next week, our book for the week is called The Everywhere Bear and we will be looking at the journey that the Bear makes. We will also be sending Clive Bear on his first journey to someone's house for the week. Our word for the week will be Where. I hope that you find my weekly information useful. Previous blogs are on our website under our class page. Please do ask if there is anything we can explain about the work that we do in Dormouse class. In the meantime have a lovely weekend and we look forward to another great week.
